Indianapolis – The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series visited the tight paper-clip track of Martinsville Speedway in Virginia on Sunday for the Tums Fast Relief 500.
Penske Racing’s driving trio was led to the finish line of the event by Kurt Busch and his No. 2 Miller Lite Dodge. After moving up to fifth place in the championship standings, Busch’s 17th-place finish bumped him back down to the sixth position with only four races to go.
Busch’s teammates David Stremme and Sam Hornish Jr. finished 33rd and 36th, respectively.
The Sprint Cup Series visits the Talladega Superspeedway in Alabama this weekend for the AMP Energy Drink 500.
While Penske’s Cup drivers were in Virginia, Penske’s Nationwide rookie Justin Allgaier and the No. 12 Verizon Wireless Dodge headed to the Memphis Motorsports Park in Millington for the Kroger On Track for the Cure 200 on the .75-mile tri-oval. After scoring his first-career pole in the Nationwide Series for the event earlier in the day, Allgaier overcame an incident with other competitors that forced him onto pit road for repairs. At the end of the event, Allgaier was able to salvage a 19th-place finish.
Ringers’ supporter Brendan Gaughan was the highest-finishing rookie of the race in Saturday’s event, scoring a fifth-place finish. Gaughan sits ninth in the championship point standings.
The Nationwide Series enjoys the Halloween weekend off and returns to action at Texas Motor Speedway on November 7.
Speaking of the Gaughan family, tomorrow afternoon I head to Las Vegas for the second-to-last race of the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing season. I will once again be staying at the beautiful South Point Hotel, Casino and Spa. Right now they are having a spectacular 48-hour room sale. More information can be obtained by visiting www.southpointcasino.com.
If anyone will be in the Vegas area for the race, PiranaZ and BabeExtreme are hosting the Dragstar Demons and Dolls Motorsports Ball at Wasted Space at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino on Friday, October 30. The event starts at 9 p.m. and consists of an autograph session featuring Pro Stock racer Erica Enders, Funny Car driver Leah Pruett-Leduc and Pro Stock Motorcycle rider Doug Horne.
