Indianapolis – The last day of September is upon us and October will be knocking on our door tomorrow morning; with that brings only four races left in the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series Countdown to One (including this weekend in Memphis) and eight races left in the Chase for the Sprint Cup in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. The IndyCar Series will crown their champion next weekend at the Homestead-Miami Speedway in Florida, while the Traxxas TORC Series name their title holders in Las Vegas October 24.
After a slow start to the season, KB Racing’s Greg Anderson still keeps his hopes alive for the championship after picking up his second victory of 2009 at Texas Motorplex in Ennis, Tex., on Sunday. He defeated fellow Countdown Pro Stock contender Johnny Gray with a 6.684-second, 207.11 mph run. Anderson moved up one position in points to third, while Gray also moved up two positions to seventh.
The series continues onto Memphis Motorsports Park for the O’Reilly Mid-South Nationals this weekend, October 2-4 in Millington, Tenn.
Ringers’ would also like to congratulate fellow Facebook friend and supporter Marty Thacker and team on their win on the Top Alcohol Dragster class on Sunday in Dallas.
Penske Racing’s Kurt Busch moved up one position in points in the Chase for the Sprint Cup, after finishing fifth in the AAA 400 at Dover International Speedway on Sunday. Busch is only 75 markers out from the top position. His Penske teammates Sam Hornish Jr. and David Stremme finished 26th and 29th, respectively, in the race.
Penske’s Nationwide driver Justin Allgaier finished 25th in the Dover 200 on Saturday, while Ringers’ supporter Brendan Gaughan finished 19th.
Both series, along with the ARCA RE/MAX Series, compete at the Kansas Speedway for their respective events this weekend.
Last weekend’s TORC event is one Scott Taylor would like to soon forget. Taylor pulled off the track early in both Rounds 13 and 14, with suspension issues on Friday and no oil pressure on Saturday. To cap off what was already a bad weekend, Taylor’s mother passed away Saturday evening.
Ringers Gloves sends our condolences and prayers to Scott and his family for their loss of a loved one.
